You won’t be able to pick up T-Mobile’s G1 phone until later this month, but we got a sneak peek at T-Mobile’s launch party the other night at Skylight Studios. We loved checking out the G1, which is billed as the first Android-powered phone but we were even more stoked to see the Raconteurs play a short set for the crowd. We, like everyone else, are big fans of Jack White, and Brendan Benson’s debut CD is one of our most-played discs, so seeing the two together on stage was a huge thrill.
As for the phone, T-Mobile and Google have promised faster technology and unique applications that will mimic a home computer on your cell phone. While we’re not sold on the design just yet (it looks too much like a sidekick, don’t you think?), we are happy that Apple is getting some competition in the phone department. We love our iPhone, so any impetus to boost its features (and lower its rates?) are a plus in our books! Or who knows? Maybe we’ll be joining the thousands who are already converting… “crossing over” as they say.. to the G1. Thoughts?
