based on the idea that a corduroy jacket never goes out of style

The Blondes’ spring ‘08 show was definitely unlike any other. With Amanda Lepore and Andre J among the many blinged-out, dressed-up folks in the audience, the crowd itself was almost as extravagant as the models that came down the runway.
Like a cross between Barbie’s funhouse and the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Phillipe and David Blond’s looks were as much about being flamboyant as they were about being girly. Jackets were studded with rainbow-colored rhinestones, while dresses hugged at the waist and then flowed out in all their silky, fairytale glory. Half the models were goth, with powder white faces and black lipstick, while the other half had rosy cheeks and curly blond weaves.
While some looks were a bit costume-y for our tastes (best worn perhaps, to a masked ball or bad 80s prom), the work put into each piece was definitely to be admired. Plus, with the DJ spinning and the crowd cheering the models on, we forgot for a moment that we were at a fashion week presentation. It felt more like, well, a party.
