Rodarte was definitely our favorite show this season. Sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy presented a collection that was earthy yet exotic, with soft beiges and tans mixed in with metallic black and blue. While the sisters showed a number of jackets and pants this time around, the stand-outs were still the dresses. They played with a combination of textures and patterns, all while maintaining an effortless look and feel. Details like crystal embellishments and cut-out pantyhose gave the looks just enough edge.
We spotted Natalie Portman, Elijah Wood and Miranda July in the crowd, and we saw Elijah again today when we went to Rodarte’s studios for an interview and photoshoot. Details on that later.
We should mention that Lexus Hybrid sponsored the Rodarte show, collaborating with the designers on an eco-friendly bracelet and candle. The bracelet was seen on many of the models, while the candle (made of natural soy and recyclable glass) will be available in stores this fall. It’s part of the design team’s “eco-chic” mission — to show that luxury and environmentally-conscious design can co-exist. It’s definitely an important message and something that we can all get behind.
Thanks to Patrick from Inform-Ventures for hooking us up and arranging our meeting with Kate and Laura!
And to everyone else at New York Fashion Week: see you in the spring!
